Spring 2013

The State of the Club

Welcome to Spring and our second quarter newsletter. Communication through our email, web - site, and newsletter is regular and effective. Please check them frequently to review the schedules of the many events and activities going on at the Club.

I am pleased to report that the Board has unanimously approved significant renovations to our Clubhouse, that the work is already underway, and that it is being financed not out of dues or special assessment but by the donations of a few, very generous members.

For several months work has been underway on the installation of a new elevator that will help make us ADA - compliant. In addition, this week additional improvements have begun including:

  • painting of both the exterior and interior
  • renovation of the bathrooms upstairs and down
  • refurbishment of both bars, making them much more attractive, comfortable and ADA compliant
  • replacement of damaged doors and windows
  • installation of attractive new hardwood floors upstairs and down, including the main staircase
  • new fixtures and furniture throughout

And...a few more nice surprises.

We anticipate all work including the elevator to be completed by the middle of June, in time for the exciting "Summer of Cup Racing" commencing Friday, July 5 and continue through most of September.

>In the meantime there will be limited access to the Clubhouse and most food and beverage services will be curtailed. Private functions are being moved to other venues. We will keep you posted via email blast and Changing Tides as access to the Clubhouse and food and beverage service resumes. Before coming to the Clubhouse during this period, please contact General Manager Bob Mulhern or his staff and they will advise you on accessibility to the Club House. During the renovation process our membership has kindly been invited by Corinthian, Marin, and Sausalito Yacht Clubs to attend their upcoming events. They recommend to check their respective websites and to call ahead for reservations.. Additionally, our local reciprocal friends – The City Club, University Club and Marines Memorial Club are aware of our remodeling project and look forward to us visiting their facilities.

Thank you for your patience during this relatively brief construction period. We can look with pride at the number of quality improvements in the making. Our Clubhouse, grounds and docks, have or are all being upgraded and we look forward to a commissioning of the facilities sometime in June. Many new programs and service improvements are also being adopted. We can look forward to the coming season of active and enjoyable yachting, junior sailing, and social activities. By the beginning of July we will be rewarded with a beautifully renovated Clubhouse that our growing membership will be proud of, and that we can enjoy with our families and guests during this exciting "Summer of Cup Racing," and for years to come.
