Commodore's Ball 2015

COMMODORE’S REPORT

Dear Members,

This past weekend we had had our annual Commodore’s Ball where we paid tribute to past, present, and future Commodores. It was an elegant and fun evening complete with sit down meal service and music by Tom Geckand his 500’s. Special guests attending the Ball were the Flag Officers of the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club where they were afforded some genuine GGYC hospitality. Additionally that evening it was formally announced the Leslie Iacopiwas approved by the Board of Directors as the new Rear Commodore. Perfect timing as it was an evening to celebrate “Commodore-ship.”

It seems appropriate to share some reflections not only as your Commodore but my past 19years of being on the Board of Directors. I have enjoyed these years enormously and the reason that these have been enjoyable are the same things that make the “GGYC” such a successful club and a happy environment.Particularly:

  • The members recognize and appreciate the work of the various committees, volunteers and staff, and while they are very supportive, they are always happy to share their views.
  • We benefit greatly from the capability and commitment of our staff. Bob Mulhernhas assembled a professional staff and competent group who all share a passion for the club and are happy looking after members.
  • The Club has a well-defined sense of purpose and strategic direction that is shared with a supported by the Members.
  • A good measure of performance for the Club is the level of participationof members in the various activities and events that are held at the Club. More than 95 percent of events have been sold out and participation on Club committees hasrisen significantly.
  • The Club continues to invest in raising theBarof our Member boating experiencewithour J22 program. We are actively seeking anothervesselto initiate our own fleet. Both member lessons and rentals are a great way to improve yourboating skills and to enjoy the thrill of sailing.
  • Finally, the most rewarding feature of the role at GGYC is the caliber of the people and diversity of skills presentin our Committees – it has been a pleasure working alongside these groups – my thanks to all.

To all our Members, it has been a privilege to be Commodore of the GGYC – thank you for giving me the opportunity and support.I wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving and a great start for the Holiday Season.

Winter 2014

Happy New Year to you and your families! I hope all of you had the opportunity over the holidays to enjoy the company of family and friends, as well as some time to relax and reflect.

For GGYC 2013 was a great and, indeed, unprecedented year. We achieved our financial targets, exceeded our membership goals, and we have a beautifully remodeled clubhouse including a new elevator. Of course, we also successfully defended the America’s Cup!

Spring 2013

The State of the Club

Welcome to Spring and our second quarter newsletter. Communication through our email, web - site, and newsletter is regular and effective. Please check them frequently to review the schedules of the many events and activities going on at the Club.

I am pleased to report that the Board has unanimously approved significant renovations to our Clubhouse, that the work is already underway, and that it is being financed not out of dues or special assessment but by the donations of a few, very generous members.
